About Us
Home School Favourites is a family owned business operating outside of Sydney, NSW. Our family consists of Paul (Dad and Managment Accountant of a building industry company), Mary (Mother and day-to-day Manager of HSF), Katharine (17 years old), Sarah (15), Bonnie (12), Courtney (10) and Mitchell (6).
As a home educating family with five children, we have found things that work and things that haven't been so successful. With thirteen years of homeschooling behind us so far, we've found the literature/Charlotte Mason approach to be the best thing overall that we have done, and want to support parents in using that method. We concentrate on good books we've liked or have had recommended to us that you may enjoy using too-books that fit into a literature-based education. Again and again I concur with Charlotte Mason's belief that "the only real education appears to be that children should read worthy books-many worthy books." (Charlotte Mason: A Philosophy of Education, p. 12).So, as our mission statement says, HSF exists to provide "resources for a living education".
We also provide a lot of books for parents. We know that the heart of most parents is to raise their children who will make a positive difference in their world and live by good values and be principled people. We also know that to do this is a steep learning curve for parents: just when you think you know your babies, they are toddlers; just when you think you understand the details of child rearing, they are teenagers, and the learning adventure continues. Parents need a lot of encouragement, especially when they are carrying much of the weight of responsibility for their children's outcomes - through homeschooling. Without a bird's eye view, the day to day details can occasionally get discouraging. We carry books that keep your focus on the goal keep growing yourself.
