Just as in the science books by these publishers, this book is also based around vignettes - fictional and real life stories that capture the attention of the reader, drawing them into learning the subject of the textbook. This set is made of 5 text booklets and their corresponding 5 activity booklets (mostly written but some practical work), as well as a Teacher Resource Kit with answers, tests and tips. Part One teaches auto mechanics through a story about a father and son who purchase and repair a 1957 Chevrolet. The boy studies for his drivers' license and eventually has his "very own car".
Part Two teaches basic concrete and carpentary skills. A group of local men serve as role models to assist a teenage baseball team to improve the city park. The course teaches basic geometry associated with preparing a foundation, walls and roof of a small shed.
Part Three introduces students to basic home buying and restoration through a young married couple who model diligence, kindness, commitment, love, resourcefulness and hard work.
Part Four teaches students about an electrician's career. A teenage boy serves as an apprentice for his father who has been contracted to wire a shop and extension to a home.
Part Five introduces students to the challenges of restoring an old farm house, water well and septic system. Students also elarn about city codes associated with waste disposal, bulding permits and electricity. The dad in the story serves as a good role model of husband and father.
