The Green Wind & The Wind is Silver - by Thurley Fowler - $16.95

Two books published as one - the second a sequel to the first.

These superb books are about an Australian farming family in the late 1940s.  As they painstakingly make ends meet, and the children grow up, they don't know the crisis that will arise to challenge them all.  Jennifer, the main character, grows from childish worries to develop great strength and character.  Wanting desperately to complete school and become a writer, the family crisis sees her laying aside her dreams to run the home.  The character development of every person in the stories is observant and realistic.  The relationships in the family and without, the farming community and the troubles they face are so real to life.  This is one of the very few modern Australian books I have seen that includes church attendance and discussions on faith as a way of life.  279 pp.
