Principles, Theories & Precepts of Biology Gde 9 - 12   by Mary Ames
from Paradigm

Here the publisher takes a bold approach to biology by challenging popular theories through study of the scientific method, application of DNA, and recent research to point out strengths and weaknesses of theories.

Some topics looked at in this challenging course are Darwin’s theory of evolution, the Scientific method, the rise of modern science, the foundations of life (chemistry), chemical reactions, biological chemistry, enzymes, cells (in depth), cellular cycles, photosynthesis, cell division, Mendel and genetics, heredity, DNA (In depth), genetic engineering, DNA finger-printing, the fossil record and the geologic column, evolution as it relates to man, anatomy, embryology, molecular biology, natural law, irreducible complexity and mathematics, earth and life, earth and its kingdoms (all kingdoms studied over following 26 chapters) chemical reactions in living things, cell structure, Mendel and his work, principles of heredity, human genetics, discovery of DNA, mutations and genetic disorders, genetic engineering, Darwin vs DNA, mutations and evolution theory, geologic column, emergence of man, Big Bang theory, mathematical challenges to evolution, catastrophist theory, Miller-Urey vs Pasteur, taxonomy, living kingdons, anatomy, young earth theory, bacteria, genome map.

When I studie Biology in Yr 11 and 12, we did nothing in more depth than this course.  The best part about this course is that all secular subjects are taught - from a strongly Biblical point of view.  Nothing is just dismissed as not true, without an in depth look at the arguments for and against.

There are 6 texts and 6 activity books (including tests). A CD that includes test and answers is included, although this information is also in the Answer Key.  The CD makes it easier to print them out.

This is a one year course. Another 6 books are due in 2008 for a second year of Biology.

Answer Key - $25.00
Texts - $12 each
Corresponding Activities - $10 each

One Yr Course - Complete: $157.00
When purchased at one time: $145.00
