A Beka Flash-a-Cards

For many years I have wanted to carry these wonderful materials. For as many years I convinced myself they were too expensive. I can’t change that - they are expensive - but oh, how worthwhile! When I began homeschooling on $250 per year, I bought some of these materials. The Flash-a-cards I bought cost more than the rest of the curriculum put together. That happened each year till I owned the whole set. I have used these cards each and every year now for 12 years, with 5 children. I have taught Sunday School for countless years using them with equal enjoyment from the TV-jaded kids as my kids found. I have lent them to a number of friends for months on end for them to teach Scripture in public schools, and they said they were the best thing they’d ever used.
What are these wonderful materials? They are the main stories of the Bible in coloured pictures on large A3 sized cards. Each pack contains 3 - 6 Bible stories/lessons. Each lesson is made up of 3 - 7 pictures. You read the accompanying guide before the lesson, to familiarise yourself with the story and pictures, then you tell the story to the children as you hold up the cards. Fidgetty children can help hold cards up. Everyone can take a turn choosing their favourite card and retelling that part of the story (oral narration). Good listeners can take all the cards on that story and put them in order. Older children can tell the spiritual significance of the story and what we can learn from it. Over a few years, the whole life changing story of God’s work in the world of the Bible comes forth, and with it a good Scripture foundation. All of the children learn to tell each story to the others, so strengthening their own grasp on it. The guides are evangelical and make the stories relate to us. Of course you may not use it in this way, but all guidance for the teacher is there if you want it. Ages 4 - 11 yrs.
